Before Zurich's church towers rose high above the Limmat, a Celtic settlement stood on the Lindenhof hill. The Romans later knew the place as Turicum, a customs post on the trade route between the Alps and the Rhine.
The city's ancient name survives on a Roman child's gravestone, discovered on the Lindenhof in 1747: the earliest surviving record of the city's name!
And along the way, we may tell you about the three saints who, at least according to legend, carried their own heads up the hill.
On this private walking tour, we explore Zurich Old Town's streets and squares, connecting the places you see with the lives and stories behind them.
A familiar landmark, a quiet corner, a detail above a doorway — each gives us a reason to pause and look again.
