Introduction - How to Use This Handbook

What this handbook is

This handbook is your online reference for delivering thoughtful, high‑quality tours as a freelance guide with The Zurich Insider. It offers best‑practice suggestions, examples, and checklists for real‑world guiding situations.

It is:

  • A practical resource for preparation, guest care, and on‑tour decisions.

  • A training tool to deepen your craft as a guide over time.

  • A place to find shared language and expectations within our small team.

What this handbook is not

This handbook is not a legal document. The binding terms of our collaboration are set out in the Freelance Guide Agreement and Annex A (fees and bonus structure). If anything here conflicts with those documents, the Agreement and Annex A always prevail.

It is also not:

  • A rigid rule book. You keep full professional autonomy in how you work, as long as you meet the agreed-upon outcomes for each assignment.

  • A complete operational manual. Specific details (exact timing, fees, client profile, white‑label instructions) are always in your Assignment Confirmation and in the Agreement Annex A.

How to read it

You don’t need to read everything at once. A suggested path:

  • Soon after:

    • Chapter 6 – Safety, Emergencies & Difficult Situations

    • Chapter 7 – Professional Conduct, Ethics & Privacy

Some topics have extra depth on separate pages (for example, conflict & de‑escalation, accessibility). Where that’s the case, you’ll see a note like:

“For a deeper dive, see: [Accessibility Deep Dive] (internal link).”

Use this handbook as a living reference. You’re invited to suggest improvements and share what works well in your own practice.
